POSITION SUMMARY:
The Engineering Technician supports engineering teams by performing technical tasks related to the design, development, testing, implementation, and improvement of engineering systems, products, and processes. This role bridges the gap between conceptual engineering work and practical implementation on the shop floor while minimizing overall costs and reducing safety risks of employees. The Engineering Technician applies engineering principles, data analysis, and hands-on skills to troubleshoot issues, gather data, prepare documentation, and support continuous improvement efforts across various technical domains.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS â?? (depending on area of assignment)

- Assist with planning, development, testing, and execution of products, processes and/or technical projects.
- Collect and analyze data to support process improvement and product quality.
- Prepare technical drawings, schematics, layouts, and documentation.
- Operate and maintain tools, equipment, and testing apparatus related to engineering projects.
- Support prototype fabrication, design validation, and troubleshooting.
- Maintain records of testing procedures, calibration data, and component specifications.
- Ensure adherence to safety and quality standards in all tasks.
- Demonstrate regular attendance and timeliness in reporting to work, meetings, and completing assignments.
- Ability to work and interact well with others.
Manufacturing:
- Support the setup and optimization of manufacturing equipment, tools, and production lines.
- Assist in troubleshooting machine or process-related issues on the shop floor.
- Work with engineers to implement lean manufacturing, 5S, and process improvement initiatives.
- Prepare work instructions, SOPs, and visual aids to support standardized production methods.
- Monitor process outputs and recommend adjustments to improve throughput or reduce waste.
Industrial:
- Assist in time studies, motion studies, and work sampling to evaluate efficiency.
- Collect data and develop metrics related to labor utilization, workflow, and facility layout.
- Support capacity analysis, line balancing, and ergonomic assessments.
- Assist in the development and documentation of process maps, bill of materials, and value stream maps.
- Coordinate with production and planning teams to optimize inventory, logistics, and scheduling.
Product:
- Support product development activities including prototyping, testing, and validation.
- Assist in performing functional, durability, and environmental testing on components.
- Document product performance data and assist in root cause analysis for failures.
- Work closely with design engineers to refine CAD models and prepare drawings for release.
- Support Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), Bill of Materials (BOM) updates, and part qualifications.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Conduct meetings with various management levels in attendance.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Associate degree or technical diploma in engineering technology, manufacturing technology, or another related field is preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience in an engineering, technical, manufacturing role or equivalent experience, if degreed. Minimum of 3 years of experience in an engineering, technical, manufacturing role or equivalent experience, if non-degreed.
Required Skills:
- Basic PC skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Proficiency with CAD and/or 3D AutoCAD software and data collection tools.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across functions.
- Knowledge of safe functioning around industrial, manufacturing, and/or production equipment.
- Proven ability to perform work samplings and summarize conclusions.
- Ability to develop proper time per product or process based on existing procedures and process documentation for use in capacity and space planning.
- Knowledge of and experience in applying work analysis and measurement techniques.
- Proven ability to develop costs/methods comparisons, break-even points, etc., and recommend and implement a course of action.
- Experience with metal fabrication, Resistance and MIG Welding, and sheet metal fabrication.
- Must be assertive and capable of making routine decisions independently.
- Knowledge of manufacturing process capabilities and understanding of process flows.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with Oracle systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot ladder logic in RSLogix500/5000 and GE Proficy.
- Ability to program new PLC sequences for machine upgrades or reliability improvements.
- Ability to troubleshoot servo motion problems on AB/GE, Ultra3000, and Kinetix Servos platforms.
- Ability to program and troubleshoot robots, and automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS). Demonstrated knowledge of CNC nesting software and equipment.
- Demonstrated proficiency in processing Item Masters, Facility Planning Data, Bills of Material, and Routes, Business Objects.
- Demonstrated proficiency in accumulating and verifying costs.
SPECIAL DEMANDS
- Must maintain a valid driverâ??s license.
- Ability to navigate in a manufacturing environment, including navigating stairs.
