Position Summary: The Supply Chain Materials Specialist 2, manages inventory of tissue/biologics and pulls cases for OrthoNebraska Hospital and clinics. Maintains appropriate inventory levels to support the patient volumes and cases, places timely product requisitions, manages product expiration and maintains Joint Commission Standards.

Position requirements

Education: High school diploma or GED required. College degree preferred.

Licensure: N/A

Certification: N/A

Experience:

  • 2+ years of medical and inventory experience preferred
  • 1+ years of experience inputting and retrieving data from a computer and MMIS program

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently, with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong sense of time, urgency, and organization
  • Ability to quickly prioritize tasks
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must be a team player and can work with a variety of team members, including operating room staff, physicians, and vendors
  • Willingness to cross-train on all aspects of the supply chain team

Essential Job Functions

  • Sorts surgical case paperwork and scans into X drive
  • Create requisitions as needed and forwards copies to vendor representatives
  • Creates requisitions for surgical set implants for overnight delivery
  • Inventory tissue/biologics and create requisitions for replacement
  • Inspect and verify incoming implants against packing slips or other documents, report shortages, and reject damaged goods
  • Promptly breakdown deliveries, sort and distribute supplies to the appropriate locations
  • Log tissue/biologics into tracking program
  • Scan and label incoming supplies
  • Processes surgical casework and creating requisitions as needed
  • Pull supplies for patient case carts
  • Restocking specialty supply and implant carts
  • Rotate and check supply and implant expiration dates
  • Assist with Bi-annual cycle/inventory counts
  • Looks for opportunities to standardize supplies
  • Routinely assesses opportunities to reduce supply costs
  • Train on MMIS application; completes data entry
  • Engage with vendors and drivers with a positive and respectful attitude
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and clean environment
  • Participate in Performance Improvement activities
  • Attend and participate in department meetings
  • Attend mandatory educational programs
  • Comply with safety policies and procedures, and regulatory requirements such as OSHA and The Joint Commission and participate in hospital-wide safety activities
  • Adjust to a fast-paced and quickly changing environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your manager

Physical requirements: This position is classified as Medium Work in the Dictionary of Occupational Titles, requiring the exertion of up to 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and /or 10 to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are more than those for Light Work.
